Chamel Fields Farm Stay
Chamel Fields, home to 'Adopt a Horse Holidays' offers a family friendly farm experience with opportunities for guests to care for a miniature horse of their choice during their stay, and to get involved in the activities of farm life as they wish, including feeding all the animals and cuddling pet roosters and taking themselves for carriage rides with a human/horse substitute. The farm also runs Dexter cattle who love carob beans. There are chickens, bantams, a pet pig who sits, a mini-donkey, and two friendly dogs, Buffy an"Oddball' dog (Mareema) and Debut, a Papillon.
Chamel Fields is an organic farm on 30 acres with two accommodation options - a 1930's refurbished two bedroom cottage and a spacious newly converted wooden barn which can sleep 13, an ideal setting for a family reunion or conference.
The Heysen Trail runs along the ridge across the road through Kuitpo forest, the Vales winery district is 15 minutes away, as is McLaren Vale with many quality restaurant choices. Victor Harbor tourist area is forty minutes south and beaches are 20 minutes west.
The highlight for most families, is the opportunity for lots of hands-on experiences with the animals and birds. Many families return again to re-visit their 'adopted' horses.
'This is the best day of my life so far' one young guest wrote in the guest book.
