Thomson Bridge Campground
Thomson Bridge is a small pretty camping area perched above the Thomson River and surrounded by dense bushland.
It is a three hour drive east of Melbourne and close to the to the attractions of the historic Walhalla area.
The campground can be accessed on foot, bicycle or by vehicle from Walhalla Road. You'll find visitor facilities including wheelchair-friendly picnic tables, toilet, a shelter and access paths. This campground has five campsites and is best suited to smaller groups.
This site is a convenient base for exploring the surrounding area by foot, bike, train or kayak. The historic Walhalla Goldfields Railway, Thomson River Canoe Trail, Poverty Point Bridge Walk and Walhalla Goldfields Rail Trail are all a short walk away. The historic gold mining township of Walhalla is less than 10 minutes by car or 20 minutes by train.
The campsites are free and can't be booked, so plan ahead and have another option if visiting during peak periods.
This small mostly flat campground offers a more accessible camping experience than most in state forests.
While access to the site is two-wheel-drive, the road can be rough and is currently unsuitable for low clearance vehicles, such as some that may be used to transport wheelchairs.
