Betty Churcher AO Memorial Oration with Quincy Houghton

As they honour International Women's Day, join the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Deputy Director for Exhibitions and International Initiatives, Quincy Houghton, as she presents the 2026 Betty Churcher AO Memorial Oration and reflects upon a distinguished career spanning more than 30 years. In an ever-evolving landscape of shifting cultural expectations, Quincy Houghton has helped shape and deliver exhibitions at two of the world's greatest museums, working at the intersection of curatorial vision, institutional leadership and public engagement. In this year's oration, Quincy reflects on her personal journey as well as the evolving role of museums, and the challenges and opportunities of working at a global scale. The Betty Churcher AO Memorial Oration will be hosted by the National Gallery Director, Nick Mitzevich. Following Quincy's presentation, there will be an onstage Q&A facilitated by the Head of Art Across Australia, Tracey Cooper-Lavery. Betty Churcher AO (1931–2015) was a leading Australian arts educator and administrator. During her esteemed career, Betty Churcher was the first woman to lead an Australian tertiary education centre as Dean of the School of Art and Design at Phillip Institute of Technology in Melbourne (1982–1987), first woman to lead a state gallery as Director of the Art Gallery of Western Australia (1987–1990) and first and only woman Director of the National Gallery (1990–1997).
